Weekend recap…

I took Friday off and drove down with friends (slept in the car) to Williamsburg for the 2008 William & Mary Homecoming. This recap will have to be done over several posts (so much happened!) but here’s a little something to tide you over…

A bull next to the bookstore… well that’s new!

Saying goodbye to Millington Hall. Home to the psychology and biology departments – as well as most of my in class memories from college. This building will be bulldozed next spring to make room for the new science center…

It was always you and me…. (circa 1996)

A little pick-me-up and take me trick-or-treating song for this lively fall Friday….

You remember seeing this movie in theaters, right? I think I fell in love with Leo right then and there. We have sincce parted ways, amicably of course. I listened to the soundtrack nonstop back in 1996 and I’ll always have a place in my heart for those songs. :-)

If only every costume party had such a happy (and then tragic) ending… *sigh*

Hoppy Halloween everyone!

Eeeeeek!

So, first order on etsy – definitely a good thing. I got all excited about the packaging etc. and made sure to mail the order first thing the next day – bubble wrapped and all! Today (tonight) just moments ago I updated the order status on etsy and thought… that address doesn’t look quite right. Seconds later I was on paypal confirming that I had in fact mailed my very first etsy order to the wrong address!

Oh my, I am such an amateur.

Looks like I will be making duplicate earrings on Saturday and rushing them to the post before they close. I’m sure one day I’ll look back on this and laugh….one day.

This song by The Wombats is all too appropriate… :-)

FIRST SALE (ever) ON ETSY!!!

At precisely 11:14 am this morning I received an Etsy order in my inbox. Eeeeek! I can hardly believe it. I couldn’t stop smiling for about an hour… I am officially an entrepreneur! I can’t wait to get home and package it up nice and pretty to ship out tomorrow.

The Buyer – Kelly, a friend from college that I ran into while down in WIlliamsburg for homecoming. She liked the necklace our mutual friend was wearing – made by me of course! I friended her on facebook and literally minutes later she purchased these two pairs of earrings! Thanks Kelly! Mwah!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah…!

I have Chris to thank for introducing me to CYHSY and urging me to go to their show here in DC. Well, I just got back from the show and I’m a bigger fan for it. Chris, here’s an acoustic version of your favorite song. Enjoy!

Ahhhh Saturday…

After sleeping in (oh how I needed this!) I busied myself all afternoon cooking vegetables from the farmer’s market and photographing my latest creations…

tis' the season for collard greens!

tis' the season for collard greens!

Quick Collard Greens

Ingredients:

Collard greens, washed and chopped

Bacon, cut into small pieces

Olive Oil

To Taste:

Red pepper flakes

Vinegar (I used white, but I prefer apple cider)

Sugar

Tabasco

First, render the bacon in a little olive oil on medium high heat. Add the pepper flakes while this is cooking to flavor the fat. Throw in the collards and while they are cooking, season with the remaining ingredients to taste. Voila!

This is much faster than the traditional Southern recipe where collards are boiled with a ham hock. I love those too, especially for the holidays, but this is an easy way to get a collard greens fix anytime…. :-) Yum!

John made broiled tilapia and stir fried greens to go with our lunch. I made the rice with chicken broth for extra flavor…

Boy was it hard motivating myself to take photos with such a full tummy!

Fun animation for Friday!!!

Humph…

My original thoughts on starting a blog for Jules and Juniper was that this would be good for business – pure and simple. Yes, I knew I would add little bits of my life here and there but mostly I wanted the focus to be jewelry. Here we are in week two and already I feel myself running out of steam.

I applied to the DC Craft Mafia, Unusual Suspects Craft Fair. The application was simple enough and I thought, here we go, we’re off! Not so, as I learned yesterday that I was not in fact accepted to said craft fair. Admittedly, I felt more relief than disappointment. I already have one holiday bazaar in November plus a launch holiday party of sorts at a dear friend’s house. Another craft show on top of all that was really getting to be too much pressure… all of my free time (and much time that should have been dedicated to sleep) has been spent trying to build up an inventory for these events. Ahhhhh… I can take a breather now because I only have two events to prepare for instead of three…

So, a blessing in disguise? I really was getting ahead of myself, wasn’t I? I mean, c’mon, I don’t even have business cards yet. And look at the sad state of this blog – I need decent banner!

I guess then this blog, at least for now, will also focus on the trials and tribulations of starting this jewelry/crafting venture from scratch. I’ll try to include information on shopping, fashion, trends in jewelry and so on. But, I’ll also be taking a more personal approach when it comes to this project of mine…

Stay tuned..!
