Turandot – Best. Opera. Ever.

turandot kennedy center

On Thursday night, my dear friend Peyton treated me to the opera. I’ve been before, to a handful of performances, all at the Kennedy Center Opera House. Now I must tell you, I adore the opera, I really do. The combination of the greatest musical composition, live symphony performances, outstanding vocal performances, breathtaking sets and costumes and acting is almost too much – almost but just right for someone like me. I’ve heard before that opera is one of those things you either love or hate instantly. Well, Peyton and I, we LOVE it! And Turandot, which runs through June 4th, is the BEST opera I have ever seen. Hands down. No contest. The message I believe Puccini was trying to convey, Love is Life, was communicated so well that even if I hadn’t already agreed with him, I would be an instant convert. If you have the time (and the money) please go see it! And call me as soon as you get out so we can gush about how wonderful it was!

DC Mini Gallery Opening

As promised, here’s the scoop on one of the previously alluded to “projects” of mine. The DC Mini Gallery had a pre-opening party/show/sale last night and the reviews are in – SUCCESS! I am too exhausted to recap here so please see our lovely write-up by the ladies at Listopad here and also their fabulous photos here.

Thank you ever so much to my friends especially for coming out and showing their support. Also thank you to Michael Harris for the lovely opportunity, to Liz (whom I had just met) for helping me set up, to Peyton for staying the entire time and helping me pack up AND to Lindsay Hart and Elizabeth Graeber for creating with me and inspiring me, and for being so wonderfully reliable and generous. I <3 you both to bits and pieces.

and (see I want)…

On the topic of wants, please say these will be in season very very very soon, pretty please…

If you asked me what my favorite fruit was yesterday or any day before that I would’ve likely said strawberries. But, if apricots were available 3/4 of the year they would soar to #1 on my list. Now that’s a botany of desire (and no, I haven’t read the book, but I am keen on the title).

Baker’s twine.

Bakers Twine - 30 Yards - Red and White

During the Summit of Awesome pink (?) elephant gift exchange, I snagged a discarded length of baker’s twine. The traditional red and white stuff is just so perfect I thought “Who would throw this away?” In fact, I have long admired this candy stripe string without knowing what it was called. Glad I learned about it today as I would love to add this to my jewelry packaging. And wouldn’t you know, it also comes in other color varieties! Yessssss!
